Think about the word or phrase you find yourself using the most right now. What is it, what does it mean, and why has it become part of your everyday vocabulary? Explain when you typically use it and what your choice of this word or phrase might reveal about you

A word that I constantly find myself saying is the word “like”. I think the word like serves as a verbal pause in a conversation while thinking of the next word to say. For me, the word like has become a habit and is and automatic word for me to say during a conversation. It makes conversations feel more natural. This word has become and everyday word in my vocabulary because it has served as a filler word that I use to explain something in a conversation while thinking and I have been using it for quite a while. I think using this word every can reveal a more relaxed style and approach in communication. In class today we wrote down the definition of 15 vocabulary words and answered questions for the textbook.  I learned multiple different vocabulary words that didn’t know before and how they can be used in writing and interpreted. I think I can use a lot of the words to improve my writing by by replacing some words.

With 4.5-week grades posting on September 2, reflect on your experience in AP Language so far. What has been going well for you, what has been challenging, and what is one thing you need to improve moving forward?

In  the 4 1/2 weeks that have gone by something that has been going well for me is starting off my grades high and keeping them high. Something that has been challenging for me is a lot of the work that I’ve been getting from mostly my APs, but it is what I expected from being a junior. Something I think I really need to improve on is just my writing in general and my confidence in my writing. I tend to not know where and how to start my writing and just sit there for a while without writing anything wasting a lot of time. I also feel that I have not been participating as much as I want to just because I think I would say the wrong thing and get judged. In class we started and finished the argumentative paragraph on our positions that we had on a “good kill” in writeable. In the process of writing, my argumentative paragraph I did waste a lot of time not knowing where to start so that was not the best so I really need to work on some w...

Think about a time when you made a claim or gave an opinion, but someone asked you, why?, Or how do you know? Describe the situation. what events did you use to support your point, and why is explaining your evidence just as important as proving it?

One very controversial claim that I have made in the past is that an iPhone is better than an android. Because my Brother had been an android user he almost immediately asked me “why and how do you know that? I pointed out that apples, sophomore support, Saying that iPhones Regularly receive major updates many years after their release, Where has androids stop receiving updates after I 1 to 2 years. Another thing that I pointed out is that it has many features like AirDrop iMessage and iCloud, which allows iPhones to work alongside other Apple devices like a MacBook or an iPad. I also explained that because Apple designs the chip and operating system iPhones run way more smoothly and maintain a high-performance for years without wearing down. explaining evidence is just as important as proving it because raw facts cannot speak further themselves and they do require clear context to be understood correctly. In class, we looked over the story ambush called Tim O’Brien, and discussed...

Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on activities. Select one and tell why.

I enjoy hands on activities the most. I feel like physical experiences help my brain have a stronger connection when doing activities. I also think I have better memory retention. It helps me remember information much longer than I think I would when listening to a teacher talk for an hour or getting a worksheet. I also think that interacting In activities makes me more focused and engaged instead of being bored. I also think that class discussions can be helpful as well by getting other perspectives and ideas from peers and the teacher. In class today, we looked over another prompt from choir AP exams Discussing their relationship between ownership and sense of self and the different views on it and where our position. In class today, I learned that it is important to be very specific in your writing and creating claims and arguing I think it is also important to be very specific with your evidence and where you got it from and how it backs up and support your over...

Describe something you will never fully understand.

Something I think I will never understand is anything that has to do with mathematics.there’s so many different types of mathematics that gets so confusing as well as so many like symbols and numbers that you have to remember, which I am not the best at.when seeing a teacher do a math equation, it looks easy but when I do it, it always feels or is wrong I’m never really confident in my answers. There are also a lot of rules that you have to change from very often like as you move from more advanced topics in math. I definitely think it’s been a little bit more difficult for me to understand as I go into the next grade. In class today, we discussed And took notes of the importance of evidence and the three main ways of getting and backing up evidence.  In class today, I learned that you’ve experienced a lot more than you think you have and it can connect and create claims from the real world.I think this is very crucial for the AP exam or when writing argumentat...

Describe one thing that makes you different from other people.

One thing that I think makes me different from other people is the small birthmark on my right cheek. I think this very petite mark makes me a visually distinct and makes people notice it faster and like remember a unique part of my face and make me stand out in a crowd. I have seen it as a flaw to hide on my face for a while, but it is more of a beauty rather something to be embarrassed of. I kind of see it as a like a symbol of luck, which I think is pretty unique and cool. In class today, we took a pop quiz on a few classroom on rhetorical situations. Today I was really indecisive of my choices while taking the quiz which I think I do very often. I was struggling to choose one choice and really not using my time wisely so one thing I learned today is to utilize my time better and while writing free response questions along with multiple-choice questions

How has living in or around Atlanta influenced the way you see your community, culture, or identity? If you were speaking to someone unfamiliar with Atlanta, what would you want them to understand about your community?

I think living in Atlanta has influenced the way I see the community by seeing how it really shapes the unique identity and how it has a really deep civil rights history and really creative culture. The environment has a strong sense of a diverse community and shared hospitality. The city self has a really amazing legacy of activism and is still shared and has shaped the city today. If I were to speak to someone that were unfamiliar with the city, I would tell them about the diversity and inclusion that Atlanta has and how it brings multiple different people from all over the world with different traditions and perspectives. In class, we read and listened to the Keisha Lance Bottoms speech during the George Floyd killing protest And discussed the rhetorical situation.   I learned that you can relate a lot of issues to yourself to make an argument stronger like how Bottoms did when she mentioned to her 14 year-old son when she was speaking.  Wh...

What is the most creative thing you have ever made? Share what it was and explain why it stands out as your best work.

In my opinion, I think the most creative thing I’ve ever made is a miniature shirt made out of a dollar bill. I think it is a really difficult  thing to do for me at least it took quite a lot of time and precision. This really stands out to me because I have always enjoyed origami and making things out of paper like paper planes, and I feel that it is a really cool thing to make that I think most people cannot do without giving up halfway through. The origami can be seen as piece of art rather than just a dollar bill. Today in class, we briefly learned about rhetorical situations and filled out a SPACECAT graph discussing the border security speech.  Today in class, I learned what the word exigence means which  is the issue or event that is causing someone or to do something. I can use this vocab board when creating other rhetorical situations or when I am doing personal writing.

Describe a time you felt completely lost.

In general, I feel most lost at school, but more specifically was in my geometry class. I always thought that any math class was my strongest subject, but after a few weeks in my sophomore geometry class, I realized this is really different from what I am used to.geometry is just nowhere near similar to algebra in my opinion. And I think I am more familiar in algebra than I am in geometry, which could be the reason why I felt really lost at that point of my life. Besides the people in my class and the teacher this is definitely  a class I would not like to retake. In class today, we worked on a completed the creating claims of values assignment where we had to create four claims from four different statements and provide five different criteria’s in order to support our claim. In class todayI learned how to quickly create a claim from a topic or statement, and also provide criteria list for them in order to make the judgment.I think that this is a very im...

What are three goals that you want to achieve this academic year?

I think that I’ve always struggled with being confident with my writing and knowing where to start in general, so one of my goals this year to achieve is to become a better writer and learn how to structure my writing better. This will help me prepare better when taking my SAT or applying for colleges in the future. I’ve also never been the best at comprehending or understanding what I read so I think I would just like to really understand what I’m reading when it comes to long passages or books. Another goal I would like to achieve this academic year is probably balancing and maintain my grades while also participating in a spring sport, which could be difficult. This school year I also hope to create a great relationship with all my teachers which I think could really benefit me in the future.

Write about something that you believed as a child.

Prompt Response:  As a child I often believed that there was always a monster hiding under my bed. I believe it first started when a watched a movie where a monster was under a child bed. I cant remember what the exact movie was but it was scary. I think I also believed that monsters were hiding in any dark places no matter where. So whenever I was going to bed as a child I was always very cautious of the potential monsters hiding. Even today as a teenager I tend to still think that there is some creature hiding somewhere in my room.   Summary: In class we took some notes discussing the types of claims.  Reflection:  In class I learned about three main types of claims which included Claims of Fact, Claims of value, and Claims of Policy. I think I use of policy greatly to propose or impose a specific change in the real world. I could also apply it to small scale individual situations .
