Think about a time when you exaggerated something to make a point, tell a story, or get someone's attention. What happened? What did you say? Why did you exaggerate? Looking back, do you think your exaggeration made your message more effective? Explain.
One time I tried to get someone's attention was when I tried to get someone to go out and eat with some friends. I began by saying, "I'm really craving some Chinese food I could die." I said this because I knew that their favorite type of food is Chinese, so I was hoping to get them to say something. My exaggeration did indeed work, looking back. They also ended up wanting to eat chinese food, and we went out.
In class today we went over rhetorical devices like hyperbole and understatments and complete excersises along with the notes.
Today I learned that overexaggerating some of my statements when I speak can strengthen them and make them more understandable. Great way to implement these devices in my writing to make them stronger.
